School and Workshop on Dynamical Systems

Presentation

The Instituto Nacional de Matemática Pura e Aplicada (IMPA) is organizing a School and Workshop on Dynamical Systems from January 16 – 27, 2006, under the auspices of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) and the Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq). It will be directed by Professors Jacob Palis and Marcelo Viana (IMPA, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil).

The main topics

  • Homoclinic Bifurcations; Strange Attractors: Lorenz and Hénon; Sinai-Ruelle-Bowen Measures; Stochastic Stability; Dynamics of Generic Systems; Partial Hyperbolicity and Dominated Splitting; Lyapunov Exponents; Density of Hyperbolicity in 1D Dynamics; Parametrized Families of Transformations; Stochastic versus Regular Behavior; KAM and Mather Theories; Diffusion; Billiards.
  • The School and Workshop on Dynamical Systems are open to students and scientists from all countries, but funds are primarily available for graduate students, post-doc fellows and scientists from Latin America.
