General Information


The library at IMPA, specialized in Pure and Applied Mathematics, offers a noteworthy collection of approximately 30,000 volumes of classical and modern books, in addition to 30,000 volumes of periodical journals, corresponding to 670 of the most important titles in Mathematics and other related scientific areas. It is considered to be of excellent international standard. The library has an ample reading room overlooking the Tijuca Forest and the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon.

Library facilities at IMPA have been integrated into the library-base network of the Library Commutation Program (COMUT). This program enables the reader to obtain copies of documents from libraries, document centers and databanks belonging to the same network.

The Library is open to the public for Consultation. Access to bookshelves and to taking books out on loan are restricted to: members of the research and teaching staff at IMPA, students regularly enrolled at IMPA, and additional persons, left up to the criterion of the Department. The loan-between-libraries service is available in the city of Rio de Janeiro.

Journals may not be taken out of IMPA.

The Library at IMPA is being computerized and the catalog containing the full collection is already available for consultation.
