Title: On the geometry of the Hodge locus

Abstract: Given a smooth family of complex projective varieties on a smooth base S, the 
Hodge locus is the set of points in S parametrizing varieties whose cohomology contains 
exceptional Hodge tensors. As predicted by the Hodge conjecture and proven unconditionally 
by Cattani-Deligne-Kaplan this Hodge locus is a countable union of irreducible algebraic 
subvarieties of S. In this talk I will describe conjectures and results on the distribution 
of these subvarieties.
